The first diagram shows the decorative wall plate of the A-type handrail bracket and the C-type handrail bracket.

The second photo shows the size of the supports that screw to the underside of the handrail.

The third photo shows the distance from the wall to the outer edge of the support plates of these handrail brackets. 

The handrail itself, is usually placed mid-line on the support plate.\

HANDRAIL INSTALLATION

Find wall studs.

Screw brackets to studs with the heavy screws / bolts / or concrete anchors provided.
Position the handrail on the studs.
Look underneath and mark where the screw holes are.
Drill a pilot hole where the screw holes will be.
Re-position the handrail on the brackets.
Use the self-drilling, self-tapping screws provided to attach the handrail to the brackets.
Climb the stairs.
